Utah Cell Phone Laws

Many states have passed laws to combat the growing problem of driver distraction due to cell phone use. Utah's cell phone law places several restrictions upon drivers. It bans all cell phone use for drivers under the age of 18, along with school bus drivers. Text messaging and Internet usage is banned for all drivers, and a hands-free device must be used for calls when driving. The law includes several exemptions for phone use while driving, such as using your phone for GPS navigation. You can also use your phone during medical emergencies or to report safety hazards and criminal activity. Police and emergency personnel using phones as part of their job duties are exempt from the law.
